Enriching Lives, Serving The Community
Cowes Rotary Club was first formed in the 1920’s. The Club was closed during the Second World War and was not restarted until 1965. Now it is a thriving body with Members. Visitors are assured of a warm welcome.
What Is Rotary?
It’s an international organisation dedicated to service. Founded in Chicago in 1905, Rotary International now has 1.2 million members worldwide in 34,000 clubs organised into Districts. It is called Rotary because the founder members met in each other’s homes and “rotated” the venue.
What Does Rotary Do?
Clubs undertake a huge variety of projects which serve the community – both local and elsewhere. Clubs may form local, national or international partnerships to undertake larger projects.
How Does Rotary Work?
Rotarians’ annual subscription supports the infrastructure at club, district and international level. RI spends only 11% of its funds on administration and further fund-raising, putting it in the top rank of charitable organisations based on the proportion of funds going direct to programmes. All funds our club raises for a project go directly to that project.
